The Fateh Sagar is a beautiful lake which was constructed in 1678, and lies to the north of Lake Pichola. The lake built by Maharana Fateh Singh, is surrounded by the hills on three sides and the Maharana Pratap Memorial in the north.
At the foot of the Fort lines the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary which is a protected treasure trove of medicinal plants and trees and is known to be home to leopards, panthers, solthbears, grey jungle fowl. To visit the sanctuary jeeps, can be hired at kelwara which is 6 km before Kumbhalgarh.
Ranthambore National Park is situated in India' s north western state of Rajasthan, near the town of Sawai Madhopur, midway between Bharatpur and Kota townships. It is surrounded by the Vindhya and Aravali hill ranges and is very near to the outer fringes of the Thar Desert.
As you ferry the clear blue waters to the Lake Palace the fantasy in white marble located on Jag Niwas Island, would seem right out of a fairy tale. Built by Maharana Jagat Singh II as a royal summer retreat, the enchanting palace is now converted into a five star palace hotel.
The origin of Rajasthan goes back to the Harappan or the Indus Valley civilization (3000 – 2000 BC). The name Rajasthan literally means the Land of Rajas (Rulers or Kings). The Rajput dynasties rose from the 7 to the 11 – centuries and until the end of the 12 – century, control of north India was concentrated in their hands.
